We're Adriana Cortés and Ylenia de Luis, two artists from Venezuela and Tenerife, Canary Islands, respectively. We both come from the world of acting, theater and movement arts.
Hemos trabajado en teatro y otras acciones artísticas relacionadas con la performance y la danza. Además, nos hemos adentrado en las artes plásticas impartiendo clases de caracterización dirigidas directamente a la realización de máscaras.
The artistic concerns and mutual interest in the living arts led us to create our theater company, Gaviera.
We like to experiment in our own theatrical creations with the body and the mask, enhancing the message through gesture and non-verbal language.
Our experience on stage as actresses, directors and creators in a multidisciplinary medium allows us to approach the work of masks from the conception of the character to its staging, understanding the artistic deed as the set of all disciplines.
Like theater, the mask evades us from reality to evoke us back to it, because when we look at it, we remember that it is a game, a representation, a fiction of our own existence.
